UNC Basketball: 2020 Tar Heels recruit featured in SLAM Magazine
By Zack Pearson
UNC Basketball commit R.J. Davis was featured in SLAM Magazine’s “Kings of New York” segment as they spotlighted his senior season
Guard R.J. Davis isn’t one of North Carolina’s three five-star recruits in their 2020 recruiting class. But he is an ascending player in what will be a very important Tar Heels class and he’s getting ready to make his mark in Chapel Hill.
The 5-foot-11, 164-pound combo guard out of White Plains, New York committed to North Carolina back in October, joining the Tar Heels’ five man class that features those three five-star recruits and two four-star recruits. At the time of the commitment, Davis was a Top 100 player in the 2020 class but maybe didn’t see the recognition he deserved.
But that’s starting to change.
Davis is wrapping up an impressive season for Archbishop Stepinac in New York, showcasing his skill-set as one of the best scoring guards in the country. His hot play has helped him earn Player of the Year honors in his league and now SLAM Magazine is starting to take notice, calling Davis the best point guard in the state of New York.
SLAM put out a 10 minute video earlier this week to showcase Davis, giving a look into his life and his game which has helped him climb the recruiting rankings from not being in the Top 100 as a junior, to a Top 55 player now. Take a look at the feature below:
The first episode in their “Kings of New York” series gives us that inside look into Davis’ life as a senior.
Davis most recently led Archbishop Stepinac to the CHSAA Archdiocesan league title last weekend, wrapping up league play. He will play in both the McDonald’s All-American Game in Houston and the Jordan Brand Classic in Chicago later this month.
