UNC basketball’s longstanding rivalry with the Duke Blue Devils is one that’s not only considered the best in its sport, but potentially the greatest in all of sports.

North Carolina versus Duke is equivalent to a national holiday if you’re a college basketball fan. Twice a year it takes center stage; and if we’re lucky, three times. If it’s on, you’re watching it. It’s as simple as that.

It’s the greatest form of entertainment that college basketball has to offer, and it rarely fails to live up to expectations. You never know who’s going to walk away victorious, either, and that’s why this rivalry is so special.

UNC fans are on cloud nine when the Tar Heels win, and a victorious march down Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street is in order. When they lose, on the other hand, fans feel an agonizing disappointment that can only be solved by a win in the teams’ next matchup.

And for every win that UNC has at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke has one in the Dean Smith Center. It’s a battle of powerhouses and bitter rivals each and every time they play, and the story lines are seemingly endless.

North Carolina fans don’t love looking back at the losses, but a trip down memory lane from time to time can be fun. Check out the Tar Heels’ five worst losses to Duke in the Roy Williams era.
