UNC Baseball: Tar Heels top Spartans at Boshamer Stadium

UNC baseball team firing on all cylinders, as Tar Heels put up a dozen runs in rout of UNC Greensboro at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night

Angel Zarate went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, as North Carolina beat UNC Greensboro 12-5 at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night.

Senior center fielder Dylan Harris was 2-for-3 at the plate with two walks, four runs scored and three runs batted in. He hit his team-high fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning, a 412-foot laser over the right field wall that gave the Tar Heels a 3-0 lead. Joey Lancellotti was the only other Tar Heel to get a hit in the game; he went 1-for-4 with a triple.

With a one-run lead at the seventh inning stretch, North Carolina saw eight runners cross the plate before the Spartans got back up to the plate in the eighth inning. 10 Tar Heel walks and three UNC Greensboro errors aided North Carolina in scoring a dozen runs, despite getting just seven base hits for the game. UNC sophomore pitcher Nik Pry got the win, entering the game in the fourth inning, and pitching two scoreless innings of three-hit baseball. Seven North Carolina pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.

UNCG got a three-hit game out of infielder Caleb Webster, and a pinch hit solo home run from Spencer Smith. The Spartans got three more hits than the Tar Heels, but left 12 runners on base, struck out 11 times and committed three costly errors. The loss drops UNCG to 7-4 on the season.
