Class of 2020 UNC basketball signee R.J. Davis led Archbishop Stepinac to the CHSAA Archdiocesan title on Saturday night.

R.J. Davis’ phenomenal senior season at Archbishop Stepinac continued on Saturday night, as the 4-star UNC basketball signee led his team to the 2020 CHSAA Archdiocesan title over rival St. Raymond Boys.

"“This game was real personal,” Davis told the Rockland/Westchester Journal News. “I felt like it wasn’t just a championship game. The game proved to New York that we’re the best team in the CHSAA.”"

Davis just missed another triple-double in the 73-68 victory, finishing the game with 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. That those numbers seem rather pedestrian compared to a handful of other games that Davis has had over the past few months speaks to the kind of senior season that he’s had. After all, he’s averaging nearly 27 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals per game.

After knocking off the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Stepinac sits at 18-9 on the season, and will now begin preparing for the city tournament. It’s there that they’ll need Davis and company to bring their A game every time out, as Stepinac will face some of the toughest competition its seen all season long.

At the completion of that, and before he gets to Chapel Hill this summer, Davis will represent the Tar Heels at the McDonald’s All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic and the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic. Then Davis will bring his speed, athleticism, good handles and terrific offensive game to North Carolina where he’ll join a quartet of top-50 players that make up the nation’s No. 3-ranked recruiting class.

Davis is ranked No. 54 overall in the 247Sports Composite for 2020. He’s the ninth-ranked player at his position, and the No. 1 prospect from the state of New York.
