The UNC Basketball program should know their fate with this five-star recruiting target from the West Coast sometime in the next month

Five-star recruit Ziaire Williams’ recruitment has been relatively silent over the past few months with no real leader being able to emerge in the clubhouse.

The West Coast product has made some updates to his recruitment in trimming his list over time but nothing crazy to give us any hints as to where he’s leading. While the North Carolina Tar Heels appeared to be the favorites early on in his recruitment, they have since faded despite still being in his final five schools.

UNC may soon have their answer on where exactly they stand, however.

As we enter the month of March and the basketball season starts to wind down for both college and high school, Williams’ decision could be looming soon.

247 Sports lead recruiting analyst Evan Daniels wrote about Williams’ situation in his #AskEvans column he released on Friday. He offered his answer to the question about the latest on the recruit and hinted that he would stay on the West Coast and should make his decision sometime in late March or early April:

"This has been a difficult recruitment to figure out. As of now I’m not expecting Williams to take any more college visits. The word is that Williams is likely to stay in the Pac-12 and potentially land at Arizona, Stanford or USC. In terms of a college choice, my guess is we aren’t far off from it. The McDonald’s All-American game is a month away on April 1. With his high school season near its end, I’d guess we see a decision from Williams sometime in late March or early April. Williams currently ranks No. 5 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings."

That’s pretty significant.

We, along with many UNC fans were holding out hope that Williams could still come to North Carolina to join their five-man class that features three five-star and two four-star recruits, giving them a Top 3 overall class. Adding Williams would put this class over the top and give the Tar Heels a legit scoring wing.

But it doesn’t sound good. Daniels is pretty plugged in and him saying that Williams likely stays on the West Coast isn’t good news. If we had to pick, I think Arizona would be the choice right now. At least the Tar Heels should know their answer soon…

dark. Next. R.J. Davis just misses triple-double in latest Stepinac victory
