Dallas Baptist University hands UNC baseball its first loss of the 2020 season.

Blayne Jones went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, and Ryan Wrobleski hit a two-run home run, as Dallas Baptist beat North Carolina by a final score of 6-3 at Boshamer Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It was the second-half of a doubleheader, and the Tar Heels’ first loss of the 2020 season.

Starting pitcher Chandler Arnold threw five innings of two-run baseball, allowing four hits and three walks, while striking out four North Carolina batters. He picked up the victory, and reliever Burl Carraway got the save.

North Carolina got a pair of home runs from Dylan Harris and Will Stewart. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, both were solo shots, and North Carolina generated just four additional hits in nine innings. A couple of those came from sophomore first baseman Aaron Sabato, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a run scored. After a sluggish start to the season, he’s now got hits in three consecutive games, and two-hit games in the last two.

Will Sandy got the start for the Tar Heels, but he lasted just three and a third innings after giving up four runs on seven hits. Kyle Mott, Caden O’Brien and Gage Gillian pitched the game’s final five and two-thirds innings, and combined to allow three hits, four walks and two runs.
