The UNC Basketball program is still involved in the recruitment of four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton but he’s in no rush to commit anywhere

As the struggles continue to mount for the 2019-20 North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball program, the future looks bright. Roy Williams and his staff have put together an impressive 2020 recruiting class that is currently ranked No. 3 by 247 Sports.

UNC has landed three five-star recruits and two four-star recruits in their class and all five are expected to make a big impact right away in 2020-21.

With a five-man class, UNC still has some offers out to recruits including their top target in five-star wing Ziaire Williams on the West Coast. Williams is still considering North Carolina and his recruitment isn’t expected to come to an end anytime soon.

Another prospect that UNC has their eyes on is four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton. The Minnesota native has been on UNC’s radar for months now and is ranked as a Top 100 prospect in the 247 Sports rankings.

There hasn’t been much on the recruitment of Walton as of late but it’s good to know that UNC is still involved. On Tuesday, Rivals analyst Corey Evans put out his Twitter Tuesday article and was asked about Walton and where he stands in his recruitment.

Here is what Evans had to say:

"I caught up with Kerwin Walton last week and, sorry to tell you, nothing has changed since the early signing period. He has completed all of his official visits but he is in no rush to make a decision.Walton even cited what Matthew Hurt, a former travel program teammate, did last year. Hurt waited out the college season, looked at what happened rosters around college rosters and assessed various systems and coaching types before committing. Walton will probably take a similar route.A final school list has not been formulated but a group consisting of Arizona, Cal, Creighton, Iowa State, Miami, Minnesota, North Carolina Texas and Vanderbilt remain involved. Arizona garnered most of the talk in the fall and while the Wildcats can be considered one of the leaders, predicting his ultimate landing spot has become more and more difficult the further away that he has gotten from his visits."

It appears as if Walton’s recruitment isn’t coming to an end anytime soon and with UNC still involved, that might be a good thing. As Evans noted above, UNC is still one of the teams involved in the recruitment but there is no true leader at the moment.

The problem that persists for UNC is the scholarship number. As it stands now, it appears as if UNC won’t have a scholarship available for either Williams or Walton. But that’s right now and there is a lot that can happen including maybe a surprise NBA entry or even a transfer.
