Former UNC soccer star Kealia Ohai ties the knot with Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt

Former North Carolina standout and current Chicago Red Stars midfielder Kealia Ohai married Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt at a ceremony in the Bahamas on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, Ohai posted pictures of the tropical wedding and tweeted, “The best day of my life. I love you forever.”

Ohai met the five-time Pro Bowler and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 after being introduced by former Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who is married to Ohai’s sister, Megan. Ohai and Watt, 31, got engaged in May of 2019 when she was still a member of the Houston Dash, who selected her as the second overall pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft.

She was with the Dash until January 6, 2020 when she was traded to the Red Stars in exchange for defender Katie Naughton, and the 18th overall selection in the 2020 NWSL College Draft. The 27-year-old has also made three appearances for the U.S. women’s national team. She made history in 2016 when she scored her first international goal just 48 seconds after entering the game as a substitute in the 81st minute.

Ohai was a four-year starter at the University of North Carolina under legendary head coach Anson Dorrance. She won a national title with the Tar Heels in 2012. As a senior in 2013, Ohai recorded 11 goals and six assists in 25 games.
