UNC Men’s Lacrosse: Tar Heels reach milestone with win

The UNC Lacrosse program made some history on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill as they earned a big win over Lafayette.

The North Carolina Men’s Lacrosse team is off to a good start early on in this 2020 college season and they built on their hot start Saturday afternoon. With a dominating 24-8 win over Lafayette, the No. 9 Tar Heels earned their 300th home win at Dorrance Field in program history.

UNC got off to a great start in this one, opening the game with 17 shots in the first quarter and taking a 6-2 lead. From there, they continued their dominance and never looked back.

The Tar Heels added five more goals in the second to take a 11-6 halftime lead. In the third quarter, UNC put up a nine spot while holding Lafayette to just one goal. They finished things off with four more goals in the fourth quarter in the 24-8 rout.

The Tar Heels were led by Alex Trippi and Tanner Cook who both scored four goals in the big win on Saturday. Trippi also added an assist on his score sheet.

Overall, UNC had 43 total points in the game on 24 goals and 19 assists which were tied for the sixth-most in program history. The 24 goals were also the most for the Tar Heels in a single game since the 2015 season when they scored 26 in a big win over Manhattan.

The win moves UNC to 3-0 on the season as they will get ready for a road game at Johns Hopkins on February 22nd.
