R.J. Davis helps Archbishop Stepinac to victory with a pair of UNC basketball coaches sitting courtside.

The North Carolina basketball program was well-represented at Archbishop Stepinac’s game against Holy Cross on Friday night. It was Senior Night for the Crusaders, and Roy Williams and Hubert Davis were both in White Plains, New York to take in R.J. Davis’ final home game.

Davis put up 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in Stepinac’s 85-66 victory in front of a packed house. It was just another terrific performance for Davis, who came into the game averaging 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game this season. He’s helped lead his team to a 15-9 record overall, and a 12-5 mark in league play.

Davis’ spectacular senior season — one that includes becoming Westchester County’s all-time leading scorer — has culminated into multiple invites to postseason all-star games. He’ll represent the Tar Heels at the McDonald’s All-American Game, as well as the Jordan Brand Classic and the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic.

Davis is a good ball handler, and can drive the lane with speed and efficiency. He’s good at creating his own offense, and setting up teammates to get theirs. He’s got quickness in the open court, and on the fast break, and can hit shots from all over the court. He’s also a good rebounder for a guard of his size. He gets to the free throw line often, and converts a high percentage of his shots there.

Maybe the most valuable asset he’ll bring to North Carolina next season, though, is his ability to play the lead guard position. The Tar Heels have been thin in the back court this season thanks to injury and inexperience, and an extra guard with a versatile skill set like Davis will be nice to have on the roster.

Davis is ranked No. 53 overall in the 247Sports Composite for 2020. He’s the eighth-ranked player at his position, and the No. 1 prospect from the state of New York.
