The UNC Football program lands a big four-star in-state recruit in the 2021 class on Monday afternoon as Gavin Blackwell pledged his verbal commitment

You can add another four-star recruit to North Carolina’s 2021 recruiting class.

Four-star wide receiver Gavin Blackwell officially pledged his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels on Monday afternoon, ending his recruitment and landing in Chapel Hill. Blackwell is the latest player to commit to Mack Brown and his Tar Heels program and this one is a big get.

The recruit picked the Tar Heels over offers from Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Duke, Missouri and Florida State among others. Here is what Blackwell posted on Twitter to announce his decision:

Landing Blackwell is HUGE for this UNC program. He’s ranked No. 84 overall, No. 14 at wide receiver and No. 4 in the state of North Carolina per the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Blackwell is the fifth player to commit to UNC in the 2021 class with all five of those players being from the state of North Carolina. Four of those five recruits are also four-star players and UNC’s class is ranked inside the Top 15 as it currently stands.

The 5-foot-11 Blackwell is a very talented recruit and will join a UNC offense that will need to replenish at the wide receiver position when he lands on campus. Dazz Newsome will enter his senior year in 2020 and Dyami Brown will be a senior in the 2021 class.

Landing Blackwell gives UNC a very dynamic player to their offense which has improved already in Brown’s first season led by quarterback Sam Howell. The quarterback will be a junior for the 2021 season and appears on track to being one of the top overall players in college football that season.
