Despite widespread belief that Ziaire Williams won’t choose the UNC basketball program, the 5-star small forward says he’s still considering the Tar Heels.

Although nearly everyone has seemingly ruled North Carolina out of the ongoing Ziaire Williams sweepstakes, the highly touted 2020 prospect says he’s still considering the Tar Heels among a list of six teams. The Duke Blue Devils, on the other hand, have been cut from Williams’ previous list of seven, according to a recent interview with Zagsblog’s Adam Zagoria.

There was mass confusion regarding Williams’ recruitment at last month’s Hoophall Classic when it was believed that the 5-star small forward had cut Duke and Stanford from his list. He’s says that wasn’t the case, though Duke has since been eliminated. He’s still taking a long look at Arizona, North Carolina, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and USC, and says he’s in no rush to make a decision.

Williams states that he’s hearing from the Tar Heels a lot, along with the Wildcats, Ducks, Cardinal and Trojans. Many believe that it’s Arizona and USC who have a leg up on the competition, but Williams has made no such claim. He also said he’s been getting recruited by multiple members of the Tar Heels’ 2020 class, as well as USC commit Evan Mobley and others that are headed to Arizona.

He’ll be in the McDonald’s All-American game with UNC pledges Day’Ron Sharpe, Walker Kessler, Caleb Love and R.J. Davis. He’ll also be alongside three of the aforementioned future Tar Heels on Team USA at the Nike Hoop Summit.

The 6-foot-7, 175-pound senior from Sierra Canyon High School is ranked No. 5 in the class of 2020. He’s first among players at his position, and third in the state of California. The longer that Williams’ recruitment draws out, the better it is for the Tar Heels. They are currently out of scholarships, but could potentially free up space on their roster by season’s end.
