UNC continues to dominate NC State

The North Carolina rivalry with North Carolina State is often overlooked due to the fact that the best rivalry in college sports happens to be in the same state. But is that the reason why it’s treated like a little brother to Duke/UNC?

The reason this matchup has struggled to become more nationally publicized is based around the disparity between the two programs. Out of the last 28 matchups dating back to 2007, UNC has won 25.

And of the last eight victories by the Tar Heels, the average margin of victory is slightly over 17 points per game, including a final score that seems like a typo when UNC defeated NC State 107-56 in January of 2017.

The word “rivalry” always has the keyword “competitive” somewhere in its definition, yet this rivalry lacks all components of that. Over the course of the next decade, in which these two teams will play a minimum of 20 times, nobody would be surprised if NC State only wins once or twice.

The Tar Heels are currently in the midst of what’s been a demoralizing season, yet they always find a way to defeat NC State. The dominance will be continued throughout the next ten years as UNC will continue to steal all the in-state recruits, the spotlight and all the tallies in the win column.
