The UNC Basketball program provides an update to star freshman point guard Cole Anthony ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Boston College

The North Carolina Tar Heels  basketball program received some potentially good news on their freshman point guard Cole Anthony Friday afternoon.

While doing his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Boston College, head coach Roy Williams provided a big update on Anthony’s status. Williams told the media that Anthony has returned to practice and did some 5-on-5 work with his teammates Thursday. That’s certainly good news for Anthony and his potential return.

Williams went on to say that there is a chance Anthony returns for Saturday’s game vs. Boston College in the Dean Dome but it will depend on how the freshman guard feels following Friday’s practice and how much he can do.

This is certainly good news for this Tar Heels team that enters Saturday’s game at 10-10 overall and riding a two-game win streak including a road victory over N.C. State on Monday night.

If Anthony is able to return to the team for Saturday’s game, it will provide a huge scoring boost to this offense that is averaging just over 70 points per game. It will also give UNC a legit point guard option as they have dealt with not only the injury to Anthony but backup Jeremiah Francis as well.

Anthony was averaging 19.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for the Tar Heels before getting hurt. He was shooting 37 percent from the field but was UNC’s main scoring threat early on in the season.

We should know for sure if Anthony is back or not just a few hours prior to tipoff which is set for 6 p.m. EST.
