UNC Basketball: Tar Heels top Wolfpack in Raleigh…again.

UNC basketball tops NC State in Raleigh for seventh consecutive season

Garrison Brooks led all scorers with 25 points, as North Carolina beat NC State by a final score of 75-65 in Raleigh on Monday night. It was the Tar Heels’ seventh consecutive victory over the Wolfpack at PNC Arena.

With 11 rebounds, Brooks recorded his seventh double-double in the last eight games, and hit 11-of-20 shots for the game. Three Tar Heels, Brandon Robinson, Leaky Black and Armando Bacot, scored 11 points a piece. Bacot matched Brooks’ 11 rebounds, notching his eighth double-double of the season, and third in the last four games.

The Tar Heels shot 49.1 percent from the floor, but hit just two of their nine attempts from three-point range. They converted 17-of-25 free throws on the night, and outrebounded the Wolfpack by 13.

DJ Funderburk led the Wolfpack with 18 points on a 7-for-9 shooting performance, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Devon Daniels added 17 points, and Markell Johnson scored 12 on a rough 6-for-19 shooting performance.

NC State shot 42.4 percent for the game, but connected on just 4-of-20 shots from beyond the arc. They got to the free throw line just seven times in 40 minutes, and committed 21 fouls to the Tar Heels’ 13. NC State fell to 14-7 overall, and 5-5 in ACC play.

Roy Williams is now 36-4 against NC State as a head coach, including a 31-4 mark as head coach of the Tar Heels. North Carolina improved to 10-10 with the victory, and 3-6 in conference play.

The Tar Heels will be back in action when they face off with Boston College at the Dean Smith Center on Saturday, February 1.
