UNC Basketball: Tar Heels 2020 recruit notches double-double in win
Class of 2020 UNC basketball recruit Walker Kessler records double-double in Woodward Academy win over Hampton
The North Carolina Tar Heels are reeling, but help is on the way. A member of the Tar Heels’ 2020 recruiting class — one that’s ranked No. 3 in the nation — put together another terrific performance on Friday night, helping his team to a 68-34 victory over Hampton.
Woodward Academy’s Walker Kessler, a 7-foot, 245-pound center out of Fairburn, Georgia, notched a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double in the War Eagles’ 20th win of the season. Even more impressive is the fact that Kessler was just two blocks shy of a rare triple-double. And despite having eight blocks on the game, he didn’t get whistled for a single foul. He also had two assists, two steals and shot 57 percent on the night.
Kessler’s productive senior season continues to impress, as the 5-star big man is averaging 17.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.5 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He’s recorded double-doubles in each of his last three games, and pulled down a dozen rebounds in each. He’s a big reason that Woodward has lost just twice this season, and stands at 11-1 in conference play.
Kessler is ranked 16th in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2020. He’s the No. 4 center in the class, and tops in the state of Georgia. Kessler and his teammates will be back in action on Tuesday night when they Travel to Eastside High School to take on the 17-7 Eagles.
