UNC Baseball sophomore Aaron Sabato was named to the Preseason All-American Team by Baseball America on Monday morning

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ baseball team will open up their 2020 season in February as they look to avenge a tough ending to the 2019 season.

For UNC, they should be right in the mix of the Atlantic Coast Conference race and will have their eyes on winning the Coastal Division and then Conference tournament. While this season will be a little tougher in the conference, the Tar Heels are returning several key players from the team that reached the Super Regional Round a year ago.

One of those players is sophomore Aaron Sabato, the team’s best power hitter and a player that is primed for a big sophomore season.

With just a few weeks until opening day, Sabato racked up another honor. On Monday, the sophomore was named to the Baseball American All-American Preseason Second Team:

In his first season at North Carolina, Sabato hit .343/.453/.696 while posting an OPS of 1.149 and hitting 18 home runs and driving in 63 RBI’s. That season earned him a spot on the All-ACC First Team and he was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Award.

He will enter this season as an anchor in UNC’s lineup, serving as a DH and the occasional outfielder when needed. The Tar Heels will open up their 2020 season on Friday, February 14th with a matchup against Middle Tennessee. UNC will host that three-game set at Boshamer Stadium, a place they were really good at last season.
