UNC Basketball: Tar Heels extend offer to teammate of Day’Ron Sharpe
Roy Williams and the UNC basketball program extended a scholarship offer to their first target in the class of 2022.
There may not be a busier head coach on the recruiting trail right now than North Carolina’s Roy Williams. From Minnesota to Massachusetts to Florida, the Tar Heels’ Hall-of-Fame front man has been all over the country in recent weeks.
His latest target, Caleb Houstan, is a 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward in the class of 2022, and he happens to be the teammate of 2020 UNC commit Day’Ron Sharpe. Houstan is a sophomore at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, and he’s the first player from his class to receive an offer from the Tar Heels.
It was Sharpe who first broke the news via his Snapchat story on Friday afternoon.
Houstan, who’s originally from Mississauga, Canada, is the No. 4 prospect in the class of 2022 according to the ESPN 25. According to the 247Sports Composite, Houstan is 14th in the nation, No. 4 among players at his position, and third in the state of Florida.
Houstan is a talented, up-and-coming prospect with loads of ability. He doesn’t appear to have any other scholarship offers at the moment, but that will greatly change in time. It’s probably a good move by the Tar Heels to get in on the ground floor of his recruitment, given how much attention he’s going to get over the next couple of years. It’s an aggressive move by Williams, who has similarly recruited players like Patrick Baldwin, Jr. and Paulo Banchero from the 2021 class.
Stick with Keeping It Heel for all the latest on the Tar Heels’ pursuit of 5-star wing Caleb Houstan, and everything UNC basketball.
