UNC basketball ends slump, topping Miami and winning its first conference game in nearly a month

Brandon Robinson scored a career-high 29 points, and North Carolina beat Miami by a final score of 94-71 to end a five-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon.

Robinson hit 11-of-16 shots on the game, and 6-of-10 from three-point range. He also recorded four assists, three rebounds and two steals in what is easily his best game in four years as a Tar Heel. Freshman center Armando Bacot scored 19 points, and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in his seventh double-double of the season. Junior big man Garrison Brooks added 14 points on a 7-for-11 shooting performance.

North Carolina shot a staggering 58 percent from the floor against Miami, and hit 43.5 percent of its three-point attempts. The Tar Heels won the rebounding battle by 20, dished out 32 assists on 40 made buckets and played their best all-around game of the season. In doing so, Roy Williams earned his 880th victory, passing his mentor and former UNC coach, Dean Smith.

Miami was led by Isaiah Wong, who scored a team-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shots from the field. Freshman forward Anthony Walker scored 14 points off the bench, and Rodney Miller, Jr. added 13. The Hurricanes hit 24-of-58 shots overall, but just 6-of-24 from beyond the arc. They did convert an impressive 17-of-18 shots from the free throw line, though, and committed just 10 turnovers in fast-paced, up-and-down game.

The Hurricanes fall to 10-9 with the loss, and 2-7 in conference play. North Carolina improves to 9-10 on the season, and 2-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
