UNC Football: Tar Heels senior lineman selected for All-Star event
The UNC football program will be represented at the 2020 State Farm All-Star Football Challenge
University of North Carolina defensive lineman Jason Strowbridge put together an impressive performance at Senior Bowl practice this week. In doing so, he’s been selected to participate in the 2020 State Farm All-Star Football Challenge at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will air on ESPN at 9 p.m. EST on Friday, January 31.
A skills competition will feature 24 players split into six different teams that are based on their school’s conference. The ACC, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, Pac-12 and four players from outside of the Power Five that will be on a ‘Wild Card’ team.
Each player will participate as an individual, and with their team. All events will be timed, and scores will be compiled cumulatively to determine a winner. Events include the State Farm QB Accuracy Competition, the Mercedes-Benz Obstacle Course, the Rocket Mortgage Strength Challenge and the Hands Competition.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive end had a terrific senior season in Chapel Hill that saw him compile a career-high 45 tackles — including 27 solo tackles — 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and an Atlantic Coast Conference-best three fumble recoveries. He also blocked two kicks, one pass defended and a forced fumble. He was subsequently named a third team All-ACC selection.
10 of the athletes participating in this year’s events are projected first round NFL draft picks. Eight participants earned All-American honors for the 2019 season. 81 former first round NFL draft picks have played in the State Farm All-Star Football Challenge, as well as 38 Pro Bowlers, and three Heisman Trophy winners.
