UNC Basketball: Tar Heels top Yellow Jackets in overtime

UNC basketball team secures a conference road win, as Tar Heels top Yellow Jackets in overtime

Janelle Bailey scored a game-high 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds, and North Carolina beat Georgia Tech by a final score of 67-60 in overtime on Thursday night.

Bailey hit 5-of-11 shots from the floor, and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Senior guard Madinah Muhammad added 17 points on a 6-for-11 shooting performance, including 3-for-4 from the three-point line and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Shayla Bennett scored 12 points, and Malu Tshitenge scored 10.

Three Tar Heels — Bailey, Bennett and Taylor Koenen — played all 45 minutes of the game. North Carolina shot 40.7 percent for the game, and 40 percent from beyond the arc. They also hit 15-of-16 shots from the charity stripe. The win improves North Carolina to 14-5 on the season, and 5-3 in conference play.

Georgia Tech was led by Kierra Fletcher who scored a team-high 19 points in 39 minutes. She connected on 8-of-15 shots from the floor, and pulled down seven rebounds. Lorela Cubaj scored 12 points, and brought down a team-high nine rebounds. Lotta-Maj Lahtinen and Jasmine Carson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets hit 35.8 percent of their shots from the field, including a putrid 4-of-19 performance from long-range. Georgia Tech falls to 14-5 overall, and 5-3 in ACC play.

The Tar Heels will be back in action on Sunday night when they face off with the NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh, North Carolina.
