Depth

The one guarantee for next year’s North Carolina team is that the depth will be outstanding — barring another injury-plagued season similar to this one. The collection of returners will be exceptional. Garrison Brooks will be an incredible senior, and Armando Bacot and Jeremiah Francis are primed to make leaps in their sophomore campaigns.

They’ve got Francis at guard, who has come into his own in his freshman campaign. Caleb Love, the 5-star guard from Missouri, joins the fold next season, too. Francis has become a reliable option at the point for Roy Williams, and adding Love loads the backcourt with talent.

The Heels have Leaky Black returning, and Anthony Harris will recover from injury at some point. Add to it Donovan “Puff” Johnson, a 4-star small forward from Phoenix Arizona, who has tons of talent, and a tremendous amount of upside. Johnson is the younger brother of former Tar Heel and current Phoenix Sun, Cam Johnson.

This Tar Heel team is absolutely loaded with big men. They’ll have three 5-star centers on the roster, and that’s not including Garrison Brooks, who will be unstoppable at forward next year. Roy Williams is going to have so many different looks ready to go with different big men when the season gets underway.

Things are looking up for North Carolina, as long as the injury bug doesn’t destroy this team once again. Having depth and trusting everyone on the court is always such a luxury, and we’re all excited to see this team ride their depth into what should be a memorable season for the Tar Heels.
