The UNC basketball program was represented at the Hoophall Classic on Monday afternoon, as Roy Williams watched a pair of highly touted recruits go head-to-head.

Roy Williams has been active on the recruiting trail since the Tar Heels’ most recent defeat — a disappointing 66-52 loss at Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon —  and he was on hand at the Hoophall Classic on Monday to watch a pair of highly touted prospects.

Trevor Keels, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound shooting guard in the class of 2021, was facing off with 5-star UNC target Ziaire Williams and Sierra Canyon. Keels, a junior at Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, Virginia, is quickly becoming one of the most sought after recruits in his class, and for good reason. He finished the game with 24 points and seven rebounds, as his team upset Williams and Sierra Canyon, 70-62.

Keels is an athletic player that can score from all three levels. He’s got great strength for a shooting guard, and length that should help him create mismatches on both ends of the court. He’s a solid rebounder for his position, and a capable defender.

He already has a couple-dozen scholarship offers from some of college basketball’s top programs, including Duke, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Seton Hall, Villanova, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Keels is ranked No. 35 in the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2021. He’s the fifth-ranked shooting guard in the class, and No. 2 in the state of Virginia.

The Tar Heels are yet to offer the talented shooter, but don’t be surprised is they do in the coming months. Don’t expect a decision from Keels to come any time soon, though, as the recruiting process is just starting to heat up for the gifted guard.

Next. Roy Williams hits the recruiting trail on Sunday. dark
