UNC Basketball head coach Roy Williams watches a top recruit in the 2021 recruiting class over the weekend at the Hoophall Classic

North Carolina Tar Heels’ head coach Roy Williams and his team suffered another tough loss over the weekend at Pitt, dropping them to below .500 on the year. Following the loss on Saturday, Williams was back on the recruiting trail for the weekend.

The head coach was in Springfield to watch the Spalding Hoophall Classic high school basketball tournament. The annual event hosts some of the top boy’s basketball players across the country and this year was no different.

Williams has already watched UNC commits Day’Ron Sharpe and Donovan “Puff” Johnson play in the event this weekend, and on Sunday afternoon he had his eyes on a 2021 recruit.

Per Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog, Williams was in attendance to watch five-star prospect Michael Foster out of Hillcrest Prep in Arizona. Foster is a teammate of UNC commit Donovan Johnson and is one of the top players in the 2021 class:

Foster is ranked No. 6 overall nationally in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings and is quickly elevating his stock. In Sunday’s win, Foster scored 31 points on 12 of 21 shooting from the floor.

The recruit has a total of 19 offers in his recruitment so far ranging from programs such as Arizona, Florida State, Georgia and Arkansas among others but the Tar Heels have yet to offer the recruit. With Foster being a teammate of Johnson, Williams can use these opportunities to watch both players in the recruiting circuit in hopes of landing both from Hillcrest.
