UNC basketball freshman point guard Cole Anthony posts encouraging message on social media about his return to the court

North Carolina’s Cole Anthony posted a response to an Instagram post on Tuesday night that seemingly alluded to his eventual return to the Tar Heels’ lineup this season. It was a welcomed insight for North Carolina fans that, after all, didn’t wholly expect to see the standout freshman on a college basketball court again.

Anthony followed that up with a post of his own on Thursday night that featured a picture of him at practice — without a brace or any kind of protective gear on his leg — high-fiving UNC head coach Roy Williams. The photo’s caption read: “Can’t wait to join my brothers on the court again.”

Anthony was expected to be out of the UNC lineup for four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee on December 16. Last week, Williams stated that Anthony’s recovery was on schedule, which would put him back on the court some time in the next couple of weeks.

Before the injury, Anthony was averaging 19.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He was hitting better than 35 percent of his three-point attempts, and was virtually the only consistent offensive option for the Tar Heels through the first month of the season. The Tar Heels were 6-3 with Anthony in the lineup, but have gone just 2-5 with him on the bench.
