UNC Basketball: Tar Heels top Hurricanes at Carmichael Arena

UNC basketball gets big win on Thursday night, as Tar Heels top Hurricanes at Carmichael Arena

Janelle Bailey scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, as North Carolina beat Miami 78-58 at Carmichael Arena on Thursday night.

Bailey hit 9-of-19 shots from the floor, and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. She pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. UNC senior guard Taylor Koenen finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Shayla Bennett added 10 points.

The Tar Heels shot 43.1 percent for the game, and 35.7 percent from three-point range. They connected on 23 of their 28 shots from the free throw line, and assisted on 18 of their 26 baskets. North Carolina won the rebounding battle 37-34, and committed just 10 turnovers to the Hurricanes’ 19.

Miami was led by Mykea Gray, who scored 21 points on a 6-for-14 shooting performance and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Destiny Harden was the only other Hurricane to score double-figure points with 12. Six other Miami players got into the scoring column, but none with more than eight points.

The Hurricanes shot just under 34 percent for the game, and 23 percent from beyond the arc. They fell to 10-7 with the loss, and 2-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. North Carolina, on the other hand, improved to 13-4 overall, and 4-2 in league play. The Tar Heels will be in action again on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Louisville Cardinals at Carmichael Arena.
