Roy Williams and a UNC Basketball assistant watched a four-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting class on Tuesday night

Things haven’t gone as planned for the 2019-20 North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball program as not only are the losses piling up but the team is dealing with multiple injuries.

UNC is off to a 1-4 start in Atlantic Coast Conference play and a disappointing 8-8 overall this season. But there are some brighter days ahead for the Tar Heels starting with the 2020 recruiting class that is Top 3 right now and has five players signed.

The Tar Heels will welcome in that class for next season and they are already getting to work on the 2021 class.

Head coach Roy Williams and his staff only have three offers out to recruits in the 2021 class with their top target Kennedy Chandler including the Tar Heels in his Top 10 recently. It’s still a little early in the 2021 recruiting cycle but with a week off in-between games, Williams took the opportunity to head to the Midwest to watch a four-star forward.

Per Brian Snow, Williams and UNC assistant Brad Frederick were in Fort Wayne, Indiana to watch power forward Caleb Hurst on Tuesday night.

Furst and his Blackhawk Christian School team were taking on Homestead and four-star recruit Luke Goode.

Williams and UNC weren’t the only ones there to watch the talented 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, either. Joining them were Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Matt Painter (Purdue), and Brad Underwood (Illinois) to watch the matchup between the two four-star recruits.

Furst has yet to receive an offer from the Tar Heels but does have a total of 14 offers in his recruitment. There is now some interest from the Tar Heels which could change his recruitment a bit.

If the Tar Heels get seriously involved, they will have to battle out some top schools in the Midwest as well as Virginia, Louisville, and Maryland.
