UNC Basketball: Cole Anthony hinting at timetable for return?
Is UNC basketball freshman point guard Cole Anthony hinting at a return from injury?
Cole Anthony hasn’t been on the court since a December 8 game against Virginia, and many have questioned whether or not the star freshman would ever play in another collegiate game. But according to a recent social media post from Anthony, his return is seemingly certain, and potentially soon.
On Tuesday night, Anthony posted a comment on an Instagram post that read, “I will be back soon.” That post, of course, got North Carolina fans excited at the thought of Anthony, the Tar Heels’ leading scorer and play-maker, back in the lineup for the remainder of Atlantic Coast Conference play. Later in the Instagram post, Anthony noted that he was “playing hurt” against the Cavaliers.
The sure-fire first round draft pick suffered a partially torn meniscus that required arthroscopic surgery in December, keeping him out of the Tar Heels’ lineup for an estimated four to six weeks. The Tar Heels were 6-3 at the time, but have gone just 2-5 with Anthony on the bench.
Before the injury, Anthony was averaging 19.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He was hitting better than 35 percent of his three-point attempts, and was virtually the only consistent offensive option for the Tar Heels through the first month of the season.
There has been no official update on Anthony’s status since last week, when head coach Roy Williams said that his recovery was on schedule.
