UNC Basketball: Former Tar Heel Brice Johnson has a new home
Former UNC basketball standout Brice Johnson has a new home in the French men’s basketball league
Former University of North Carolina basketball standout Brice Johnson has a new home in the French men’s basketball league according to a report from Sportando.com.
The 6-foot-10, 230-pound Johnson signed a contract with Chorale Roanne Basket, a professional basketball club located in Roanne, France. The club was founded in 1937, and is part of the LNB Pro A — the top-tier men’s professional basketball league in France. Chorale has won national titles on two occasions; once in 1959, and again in 2007.
A successful four-year college career with the Tar Heels culminated in Johnson being named a 2016 first team All-American. Upon the completion of his senior season, Johnson entered his name into the NBA Draft, and was subsequently selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the 25th pick.
Despite a tremendous amount of athleticism and fanfare coming out of North Carolina, Johnson had trouble sticking around in the NBA. He battled injuries to begin his career, and then bounced around from city to city, in and out of the NBA and the G-League, before moving abroad. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 21 appearances with the Clippers and Grizzlies.
Johnson then spent short stints in Puerto Rico and Italy over the last year before his most recent move to France. He’ll now look to stay on with Chorale Roanne for the remainder of the 2020 season.
