It’s a dark time in Chapel Hill for anyone involved in the UNC Basketball program however Garrison Brooks has been on a tear recently.

Throughout the recent stretch of UNC basketball, the only consistency for the Tar Heels has been Garrison Brooks, who has been locked in as of late. He’s been the lone entertainment of this team recently and he deserves all the credit in the world.

Brooks has been doing everything for the Tar Heels in the last six games. His averages are incredible and he’s been doing with immense efficiency. Brooks has averaged 18.7 points per game while contributing 9.8 rebounds as well.

Those numbers are eye-opening for Brooks, but what makes it so impressive is the fact that he’s doing it while shooting nearly sixty percent from the field. The name “Garrison Brooks” should never be mentioned when discussing the recent struggles of the Tar Heels.

In addition to the standout production from Brooks, something else he’s been doing has been unbelievable. The junior forward is averaging just one turnover per game over the last six which is remarkable for a player who is playing almost thirty-five minutes a night and carrying so much of the load for the Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels fell once again on Wednesday night to Pittsburgh, however, Brooks remained at peak form. He totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 75 percent.

He’s been awesome for the Tar Heels and I’m writing this to not let this get over-looked by the fact that this team has been struggling. The improvement from Brooks has been fun to watch as he appears to get better every game and has made major leaps from the player he was last year.

Brooks averaged just 7.9 points per game as a sophomore and 4.5 as a freshman so the strides he’s made this year have been overwhelming and a bright spot for the Heels is the fact they’ll most likely have him back next year.

The Tar Heels return to action Saturday afternoon as Clemson visits Chapel Hill in what’s hopefully a bounce-back game for the Heels. Expect Garrison Brooks to continue his excellence and let’s be optimistic that Roy Williams can finally pass Dean Smith in coaching victories in North Carolina.
