UNC Baseball: Aaron Sabato named to preseason All-American Team
By Zack Pearson
Diamond Heels standout Aaron Sabato earned some big preseason praise ahead of his sophomore season at North Carolina
The North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team may have fallen short in their goal to get back to the College World Series in 2019 but we did get to enjoy the emergence of one freshman.
Aaron Sabato wowed us all season long in Chapel Hill hitting .343/.453/.696 while posting an OPS of 1.149 and hitting 18 home runs and driving in 63 RBI’s. His big season earned him a All-ACC First-Team Selection and the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year award in 2019.
Sabato was also named the Co-National Freshman Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, capping off that impressive freshman year.
Now as we get ready for the 2020 season, Sabato has picked up some more national honors ahead of his sophomore season.
On Tuesday, Sabato was selected as the Perfect Game preseason All-American First-Team designated hitter. Earlier on in the offseason, Sabato was named to the Collegiate Baseball All-American First-Team as the designated hitter, picking up two preseason honors thus far.

During his historic first season on campus, Sabato set the new UNC freshman record for most home runs at 18, beating the previous mark of 15. In addition to leading the team in multi-hit and multi-RBI games, Sabato also led the Tar Heels in batting average (.343), hits (79), doubles (25), home runs (18), RBIs (63), total bases (160) and slugging percentage (.696).
If his sophomore season is anything close to his freshman year, the Tar Heels should be able to make another run at the College World Series this June.
