Kendall Marshall, PG

The man that went by “Butter” because his game was so smooth lands on our All-Decade Team as the starting point guard.

This wasn’t an easy decision by all means and that’s no disrespect to Marshall, either. UNC has a rich history of point guards over the years and the 2010s were no different. We are talking about Marshall, Joel Berry, Marcus Paige, Coby White, and even Cole Anthony.

But for Marshall, we gave him the nod because he was one of the best facilitators we have seen in Roy Williams’ offense. There was no better passing point guard for UNC in this decade than Marshall and it almost didn’t happen.

Marshall got his shot in December of his freshman season after Larry Drew decided to leave the program. That opened a spot for Marshall and he took advantage right away in 2011. UNC’s offense got significantly better with Marshall as the starter and he averaged 6.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in that first season.

It got better in his sophomore season. He averaged 8.1 points and 9.8 assists for the Tar Heels, while leading them to the Elite 8. Marshall earned a spot on the All-ACC team twice in his career as well as been named twice to the All-ACC Tournament Team and a member of the All-ACC Freshman team in his career.
