The UNC Football program quickly fills a coaching position on their staff with the hiring of former Nebraska assistant Jovan Dewitt

Just a few weeks after the North Carolina Tar Heels wrapped up their 2019 season with a big bowl win over Temple, Mack Brown made some changes to his staff.

Brown announced that special teams coordinator Scott Boone would not return to the staff for the 2020 season. It didn’t take Brown long to fill the spot.

The Tar Heels announced on Monday morning that they have hired Jovan Dewitt as outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. The former Nebraska coaching assistant now has a big role on the Tar Heels’ staff for a team that has high aspirations for the 2020 season.

Dewitt brings 21 years of coaching experience to UNC’s staff and already has ties to the program as he spent two seasons on Army’s staff under now Tar Heels’ defensive coordinator Jay Bateman in 2014 and 2015.

The coach spent the past two seasons at Nebraska serving as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach under Scott Frost. He followed Frost to Nebraska after two seasons at UCF.

Dewitt has also coached on the Division III level and FCS level before landing a job at Florida Atlantic in 2012 and 2013. He was on staff with the Owls when their defense finished 11th nationally in 2013. Dewitt should not only be an improvement on defense but special teams as well.
