Was the Georgia Tech loss the breaking point for UNC as the performance led to Roy Williams apologizing to anyone affiliated with North Carolina?

I’ve stayed positive with this North Carolina Tar Heel team all year long. I believe in the pieces on this team and I trust what Roy Williams has put together but the game against Georgia Tech at home was bizarre. That might be the worst outing by a North Carolina basketball team I’ve seen in a very long time.

It was far more severe than a bad loss…it was horrendous.

A passionless first half had the Tar Heels down 27 to 4 at one point. The injuries to Cole Anthony and Anthony Harris are demoralizing. I understand the problems that have arisen for the Heels but this game felt like the team was giving up on the season.

The performance was so bad from the Heels that it led to Williams leading his postgame statement with this:

I hope I’m wrong but it feels likes I’m not. Outside of how Garrison Brooks performed (35 points and 11 rebounds), nobody else had a game worth mentioning. This biggest scare that comes with this result is the fact that Georiga Tech is one of the bottom feeders of the conference.

What’s going to happen when Louisville and Duke are the opponents?

And, again, I understand the injuries are making this extra difficult for the Heels, but they need to keep their head up and not give up. The concern of all of this is the chance that this team is calling it quits for the rest of the year. Williams sounds defeated in this clip. Almost as if he’s on the verge of losing his job.

The reason this comes with so much discomfort is obviously the fact that it’s UNC basketball and it’s so rare to see from a Williams coached team. But, the past means nothing at the moment and this team needs to keep their head up, but honestly, it feels like chins are to the chest right now.

Where does confidence come from at this point, the schedule is only going to get tougher as the season goes on and to think this team is going to face Duke in a month is terrifying. It would take a drastic change for that night not to be miserable for Tar Heels fans.

Why Cole Anthony and Jeremiah Francis should both start. dark. Next

Overall, it’s all negative in Chapel Hill and I’d be shocked if this team thought any different. And to restate myself again, I hope I’m wrong but I doubt I am. The Tar Heels have the Panthers of Pittsburgh at home on Wednesday and I can’t promise anything special from UNC.
