UNC basketball freshman guard Anthony Harris is done for the season with torn ACL

And the hits just keep on coming.

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams confirmed on Friday morning that freshman guard Anthony Harris will miss the remainder of the season with the torn ACL that he sustained in the Tar Heels’ 70-67 win over Yale on Monday.

The injury occurred with less than four minutes remaining in the game when Harris drove toward the basket from the right wing, and collapsed untouched after his knee appeared to buckle and give out. After laying on the court for a few moments, an upset Harris limped off the court under his own power.

This is just the latest in a series of events that have caused Cole Anthony, Armando Bacot, Leaky Black, Andrew Platek, Brandon Robinson and Sterling Manley to miss playing time this season with a variety of injuries.

"“This is one of the most heartbreaking injuries one of my teams has ever dealt with,” Williams said in a statement. “Anthony is such a great kid and his teammates and coaches have all seen the countless hours he put in to come back from the knee injury he suffered in high school. The impact on our locker room after the Yale game was devastating. Everyone associated with our program hurts for Anthony and his family. But we will rally around him and support him every step of the way. I know he will work unbelievably hard to get back on the floor.”"

Harris scored just 14 combined points in 30 minutes of play over his first three games of the season for the Tar Heels. In his past two games, though, Harris totaled 20 points in 30 minutes off the UNC bench, and his 14 points against UCLA helped spark the team’s 74-64 victory in Las Vegas.

Harris was averaging 6.8 points and one rebound per game, while shooting 54.6 percent from the floor.
