A former UNC Football player will be on the move with NFL free agency begins in March as the Indianapolis Colts are set to move on from Eric Ebron

Former North Carolina standout tight end Eric Ebron will have a new home in the NFL when the 2020 season begins.

After spending the previous two seasons in Indiana with the Indianapolis Colts, the tight end and franchise are set to go their separate ways. In the season-ending press conference on Thursday, Colts General Manager Chris Ballard was asked about Ebron and his future in Indianapolis as he’s set to be a free agent and simply said “We’ll probably move on.” Ballard then quickly moved on to the next question.

Just a few hours later, Ebron echoed that statement by posting this message on Twitter:

The 26-year-old will now get to test free agency for a second time in his career. He was a first round pick of the Detroit Lions back in the 2014 NFL Draft and spent four seasons in the Motor City where he struggled in the offense.

But in 2018 after joining the Colts, Ebron had a career year catching 66 passes for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns. It was his first year with quarterback Andrew Luck and the production was there.

Following Luck’s retirement, Ebron’s production went down in 2019. He caught just 31 passes for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Now Ebron will have a market in the offseason and he’s already hinted on Twitter about reuniting with former teammate Tre Boston back in Carolina. Another interesting destination could be Chicago where he could play with Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears are also in need of a tight end.

This will be something to monitor this offseason as free agency begins. Make sure to check back with Keeping It Heel for the latest.
