Two UNC Basketball commits shined at the annual John Wall Holiday Invitational this past weekend, taking home some honors along the way

The annual John Wall Holiday Invitational has officially wrapped up for the 2019 season as several top prospects across high school basketball participated in the even held in Raleigh. Two of those prospects are North Carolina commits Day’Ron Sharpe and Donovan “Puff” Johnson.

The duo make up just two of the five players committed in the Tar Heels’ impressive 2020 recruiting class which ranks Top 3 as we enter the New Year. Both also were impressive in their run at the John Wall Invitational, helping lead their teams to titles in different brackets.

Sharpe and Montverde captured the title in the David West Bracket, beating Patrick School 77-32 on Monday night.

Following that game, it was Johnson’s turn to shine. The forward helped lead his Hillcrest Prep team to a narrow 67-63 win over Word of God in the T.J. Warren title game.

Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in the win and was later rewarded for his play throughout the tournament, being named the Most Valuable Player of the T.J. Warren bracket:

Sharpe also earned some recognition for his play as he was named to the David West All-Tournament Team following Monday’s win.

With both Sharpe and Johnson playing well, it’s good news for the Tar Heels and what they have coming in next season with that 2020 recruiting class. They will have five players who are all playing well coming in and we could see them move up the rankings as well as the season goes on.
