The UNC Basketball team currently sits on the outside looking in for a spot in the NCAA Tournament per the ESPN Bracketology.

It’s been a rough start to the 2019-20 college basketball season for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they sit at 7-5 going into the final game before the calendar flips to 2020.

UNC has lost some tough games this year but perhaps their biggest loss came in the form of freshman Cole Anthony. It was announced ahead of UNC’s loss to Wofford that Anthony would miss the game and then a few days later it was revealed that he would miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing a procedure on his knee.

With the 7-5 record, the Tar Heels now find themselves having to make up some ground if they want to reach the NCAA Tournament. While we still have two more months plus the conference tournament left, the latest Bracketology predictions aren’t looking good for the Tar Heels.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his updated mock bracket ahead of Christmas and he doesn’t have the Tar Heels in the field of 68.

Instead, he has the Tar Heels listed right on the bubble in terms of the First Four Out with Houston, Illinois and LSU. As for the Last Four In, NC State, VCU, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

UNC’s resume is headlined with a win over Oregon in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thanksgiving weekend and is marked with a blowout home loss to Ohio State and a home loss to Wofford a week later. Their strength of schedule rank currently sits at 8 as they have played the Buckeyes, Gonzaga, Virginia, Michigan and Oregon.

As for BPI, the Tar Heels are currently at No. 54 which isn’t helping their case at all.

UNC will have some chances to improve their resume with games vs. Virginia, Duke (twice), Florida State and Louisville left, as well as the conference tournament. It’s still a little early but UNC will need to start racking up some wins.
