Will the UNC Basketball program add to their 2020 recruiting class? One analyst thinks so but not how you imagine them doing so.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have five players signed to their 2020 recruiting class which currently ranks third as we get ready to head into the month of December.

UNC was able to land five-star recruits Day’Ron Sharpe, Walker Kessler, and Caleb Love as well as four-star recruits Donovan “Puff” Johnson and R.J. Davis. This is Roy Williams’ best class in years and they may not be done just yet.

The Tar Heels still have offers out for a few top recruits left unsigned but their biggest and most realistic target is Ziaire Williams. The five-star forward has visited UNC multiple times over his recruitment and could be the Tar Heels’ best bet.

On Tuesday, we wrote about an analyst making his prediction for Williams and saying that he likely will stay on the West Coast. If that’s true, then where do the Tar Heels turn? The scholarship situation is also something to take into consideration but a lot can happen from now and next Spring.

Rivals reporter Corey Evans wrote on the Tar Heels’ situation in his Wednesday leftovers column and offered his take:

"My bet is that North Carolina is not done with its 2020 class, despite being full on its scholarship count for next year. Thanks to a strong five-man class that practically checks all of the boxes, the Tar Heels won’t strike not any time soon, but rather in the spring and only if an early departure hits the program. The Tar Heels will attempt to draw out the recruitment of Ziaire Williams, though I do not see the five-star playing things out that long and instead, will commit to a west coast-based school.Greg Brown is a far-fetched target. Their final strike could come with a grad-transfer.Roy Williams indoctrinating five freshmen, all of which could contribute in some way next season, at a program that has relied often on much older talent, may be asking a lot. Six freshmen would be something else! This all brings us to the grad-transfer realm, which would make a whole lot of sense where adding a much more experienced piece to its roster next season similar to what UNC did earlier this year with Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce."

It’s pretty simple after reading that. It’s Williams or best for the Tar Heels in terms of a recruit but if they don’t land him and he stays on the West Coast, it’s likely UNC could add another graduate transfer.

Roy has had success with graduate transfers, most notably Cameron Johnson and most recently Justin Pierce and Christian Keeling, so don’t count them out on that front just yet.

Next. Is this UNC target bound to land on the West Coast?. dark
