The UNC Basketball program moves up in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll that was released on Monday afternoon

The first week of the 2019-20 college basketball season is officially in the books and it’s already been an exciting one.

For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they opened up the year with a big Atlantic Coast Conference win over Notre Dame and then beat UNC-Wilmington on the road Friday night. Freshman guard Cole Anthony has led the way for the Tar Heels’ 2-0 start and has been very impressive.

On Monday the Associated Press released their second poll for the 2019-20 college basketball season and the Tar Heels were one of the teams that moved up. UNC remained in the Top 10 but climbed three spots from No. 9 to No. 6 in the poll.

Kentucky took over the top spot in the poll following their win over then No. 1 Michigan State a week ago. The Spartans dropped to No. 3 in the poll behind the Wildcats and No. 2 Duke.  Louisville (No. 4), Kansas (No. 5), UNC (No. 6), Maryland (No. 7), Gonzaga (No. 8), Virginia (No. 9) and Villanova (No. 10) round out the top 10.

With the new poll out, the Atlantic Coast Conference has a total of four teams ranked and they are all in the Top 10. It’s still early but it’s looking good for the conference again.

The biggest mover in the poll was Florida as they dropped nine spots from No. 6 to No. 15 after losing to Florida State on Sunday. The Seminoles received 112 votes and were just outside of the Top 25 this week.

Next up for the Tar Heels is a Friday night game vs. Gardner-Webb and then Elon next week before they play in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.
