The UNC Basketball program has landed a big commitment from four-star forward Donovan “Puff” Johnson on Tuesday night

You can add another recruit to the North Carolina Tar Heels’ 2020 basketball recruiting class.

Donovan “Puff” Johnson became the latest recruit to pledge his verbal commitment to UNC in the 2020 class, making the announcement on Tuesday night. Johnson revealed earlier on Tuesday that he would make his decision and a few hours later did just that.

The recruit picked UNC just two days after his official visit to the program ended. He was on campus all last weekend and watched UNC’s exhibition as well as the football team take on Virginia. The Tar Heels did enough to win him over in the end on that visit, as they beat out rumored favorite Arizona.

Johnson is familiar with the Tar Heels’ program as his older brother, Cameron, played there for two years after transferring from Pitt. Puff has been on UNC’s campus a lot while Cameron was with the Tar Heels and was even here prior to the NBA Draft as the two worked out together. The familiarity with the program eventually won him over.

With the commitment of Johnson, UNC now has five players committed. The Tar Heels have five-star recruits Walker Kessler, Day’Ron Sharpe and Caleb Love along with four-star guard R.J. Davis committed.

All five prospects will sign during the Early Signing period which begins on November 13th, allowing them to officially join the class. The latest commitment also keeps UNC’s recruiting class in the Top 3 and means they will likely finish in the Top 3 for the year.

The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Johnson is ranked as the No. 48 overall player in the 2020 class by 247 Sports and No. 13 at his position.
