A top recruiting target for the UNC Basketball program doesn’t appear in any hurry to announce his decision and he could end up staying on the West Coast

The North Carolina Tar Heels currently have four players committed to their 2020 recruiting class, which currently ranks in the Top 5.

Even with three five-star recruits and a four-star committed, Roy Williams and his staff hope they aren’t done adding. They have offers out to Greg Brown, Ziaire Williams, Cade Cunningham, Bryce Thompson and Kerwin Walton. They would love to add two of those recruits but with the two additions to the backcourt, some of those guards might not be in the picture outside of a commitment for Cunningham.

UNC’s best bet might just be forward Ziaire Williams, a five-star prospect from the West Coast that has visited Chapel Hill a few times.

Williams is a key recruit as he would add another scoring dynamic on the wing for the Tar Heels to go along with Caleb Love and R.J. Davis. But while the four commits plan to sign early, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Williams.

247 Sports lead recruiting analyst Evan Daniels discussed some UNC targets in the 2020 class in his latest article and brought up Williams’ recruitment. Daniels touched on when he expects Williams to announce and where he will land. It doesn’t seem good for the Tar Heels’ chances.

Here is what Daniels wrote on Williams:

"I exchanged messaged with Ziaire Williams last week and at that time he told me he didn’t have any other visits scheduled, and wasn’t really close to a decision. Do I expect him to take more visits yes? If I were to handicap, I’d say that Williams likely stays on the West Coast and the frontrunners in no order are Arizona, Stanford and USC."

The good news is that Williams has been on campus more than once and is interested in the Tar Heels. But the timing of the recruitment is key.

UNC did have to wait until April to hear Cole Anthony’s decision and he did pick the Tar Heels when it was all said and done. With Williams waiting until 2020 to pick, it’s going to be a long wait for UNC.

Daniels also did state in there that he expects Williams to stay on the West Coast with one of the three schools he listed. There is still a long ways to go in this recruitment and anything can change but this isn’t good news right now.
