UNC Football 2020 recruiting target Desmond Evans will make his decision on Friday afternoon, ending his recruitment

The day has finally come for the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program. On Friday, they will learn their fate in the recruitment for five-star prospect Desmond Evans.

The Tar Heels have been recruiting the in-state product for a very long time and it continued even after the program fired Larry Fedora and hired Mack Brown as their head coach. Brown and his staff didn’t shy away from recruiting Evans and for good reason.

Evans is not only the best player in the state of North Carolina but he’s one of the best players in the entire 2020 recruiting class.

Taking a look at his ranking, 247 Sports has him as the No. 22 overall player and ESPN has him No. 2 overall in their latest rankings.  His five-star ranking is consensus across the board and he really could be a program-changer for the Tar Heels.

Evans will make his college choice on Friday afternoon at his high school, ending his recruitment and making one program in the country very happy. He will be deciding between UNC, Florida and Virginia Tech but it appears to be a two-team race.

The Tar Heels and Gators have emerged as the two teams Evans has really focused on going into this announcement. But as Friday looms, the Tar Heels might just be in the best shape to land him.

Of the 8 Crystal Ball Predictions on 247 Sports, the Tar Heels have all 100% for Evans. Those are picks made by recruiting analysts and site experts with the latest coming from the Florida Gators Insider on 247 Sports. Crystal Ball predictions don’t guarantee a commitment but it’s safe to say that many favor the Tar Heels.

It’s been rumored for some time now that the Tar Heels were the team to beat and Florida has put forth their best effort in trying to win the recruitment, even hosting Evans during their win over Auburn. We will soon find out if that was the case.

If Evans does commit to the Tar Heels, it would certainly boost Brown’s 2020 class which is currently ranked inside the Top 20. UNC would move up in the rankings and add to their defense that is currently being rebuilt through these classes.

This also could lead to some other big recruiting news down the line for the Tar Heels.
