The UNC Football team is being projected to reach a New Year’s Six Bowl Game by one publication in the latest bowl projections.

The North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program will be back in action this weekend as they make the trip up to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. UNC enters the game at 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and in a tie for first place with Virginia and Duke in the Coastal Division.

After opening up the season 2-0, the Tar Heels dropped three-straight games before rebounding to beat the Yellow Jackets two weeks ago. Hopefully a sign of them getting things back on track.

But as we go into this big week, where do the Tar Heels stand in terms of bowl games?

Both ESPN and Sporting News have made their latest bowl game predictions for this season and both have the Tar Heels in a game. However, it is very different games.

Sporting News has the Tar Heels reaching the Orange Bowl in the New Year’s Day Six Bowl Games, which is HUGE. They have UNC taking on LSU out of the SEC, a team that has College Football Playoff hopes and is currently 6-0 overall after beating Florida.

Of course, if this were to happen then it would mean LSU would have lost to Alabama in a few weeks or dropped another game. It also means UNC would run the table in the regular season and possibly lose to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. The ACC has a tie-in to the Orange Bowl and with Clemson bound to reach another College Football Playoff, it would mean UNC would be that team to represent the conference in the Orange Bowl.

Wouldn’t that be something?

As for ESPN, both Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have the Tar Heels in the Belk Bowl taking on Kentucky out of the SEC. The Belk Bowl is place on New Year’s Even just down the road in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It’s still early on but damn, it’s sort of exciting to see UNC being mentioned in the Orange Bowl for now.
