UNC Basketball: Tar Heels hoping to reel in Bryce Thompson
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program is hoping to reel in another five-star recruit in shooting guard Bryce Thompson. But what are their chances?
The North Carolina Tar Heels are off to a great start in their 2020 recruiting class, landing three five-star recruits early in the cycle. UNC received their first verbal commitment from Day’Ron Sharpe in 2018 then followed it up with Walker Kessler in September and Caleb Love just last week.
But Roy Williams and his staff aren’t done just yet.
The Tar Heels are hoping this is going to be a monster class and their first Top 5 class in over five years. The possibility is there as they still have offers out for a few top recruits in the 2020 class and the way things are going now, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see them land at least one and possibly two.
One of those targets left is five-star guard Bryce Thompson, a Oklahoma native that is ranked No. 19 overall by 247 Sports. The Tar Heels are one of the finalists for Thompson and he’s already taken an official visit to UNC. Last week, Williams went to visit Thompson for a practice at his high school, continuing to prioritize him as a recruit.

But where do the Tar Heels stand with Thompson? Well, they might be in better shape than many think.
Rivals recruiting analysts Eric Bossi, Corey Evans and Dan McDonald broke down some top recruits left for teams and discussed Thompson. Evans named Thompson as the most important wing recruit for Kansas left. He offered some insight as to what could happen in his recruitment.
Here is what Evans said:
"Kansas with Bryce Thompson. The recent allegations levied against the program have scared a few prospects away from considering the Jayhawks any further and while it could play a part in the recruitment of Thompson, he is still taking a visit to Lawrence this weekend.Expect for a decision this fall with North Carolina, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, alongside the Jayhawks, sitting as the four to beat."
Thompson’s recruitment will likely over by the Early Signing Period so he can sign right then before having to wait until 2020. With the Tar Heels being a serious contender this will certainly be something to watch in the coming weeks.
