UNC Football head coach Mack Brown praises Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney ahead of Saturday’s game in Chapel Hill

It’s rare when the North Carolina Tar Heels and Clemson Tigers get the chance to meet in football due to the expansion of the Atlantic Coast Conference over the years. But on Saturday, defending national champion and No. 1 Clemson come into Chapel Hill as they look to continue to roll this season.

The Tigers have looked like the best team in the ACC and all of college football through the first four games of the year.

UNC will have a tough task ahead of them on Saturday as they have opened up as 28-point underdogs and are coming off of two-straight losses. While UNC will look to get back on track, it won’t be easy. It’s going to take their A+ game and a lot more to beat a Clemson team that is absolutely stacked.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, UNC head coach Mack Brown talked about the challenge ahead of his team and had some praise for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson program.

“They have the best program in the country, they have the best head coach and coaches in the country, and they have the best depth in the country,” Brown said on Monday via Pat James of GoHeels.com.

He’s not wrong.

Clemson has been the best program in the country since last season and that has carried into this year. They recruit very well, play well and are coached well. It’s something that Brown is hoping to do here at UNC and he has visions of his team being the “Clemson of the Coastal” according to him.

“Our program is run very much like Clemson’s,” Brown said. “… From our standpoint, we want to be the Clemson of the Coastal.”

The last time these two teams met, UNC wasn’t blown out and even game Clemson a hell of a game in the ACC Championship back in 2015. They fell behind in the second half but rallied to cut the lead down to 8. They then appeared to recover the onside kick attempt before they were flagged for a very close offsides call.

This year will be a little different. The atmosphere in Chapel Hill should be incredible and if UNC can somehow pull the upset off, it will be an all-timer for Brown and his team.
