The UNC Basketball program has a new target in the 2020 recruiting class as Roy Williams officially offered this four-star shooting guard

Roy Williams and his staff are still in pursuit of some help on the wing for future basketball recruiting classes. With Cole Anthony likely being a one-and-done, the North Carolina Tar Heels will have a void on the wing that needs to be address.

The Tar Heels do have offers out to several recruits that could fill that void in hopes of at least landing one for their 2020 recruiting class.

On Tuesday, Williams officially offered another shooting guard in the 2020 class in hopes of pulling him out of the Midwest.

Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan reported early on Wednesday morning that class of 2020 four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton has received an offer from the Tar Heels. Williams and assistant Brad Frederick were in Minnesota at Hopkins High School to watch a team practice on Tuesday and before they left, they extended the offer to the 6-foot-4, 170-pound guard.

McMillan detailed more about UNC’s involvement with Walton’s recruitment in the article:

"Both Frederick and assistant coach Steve Robinson logged viewings of Walton with D1 Minnesota on the adidas grassroots circuit this spring and summer. Williams watched Walton on the final day of the July evaluation period as D1 Minnesota faced 2020 UNC commitment Day’Ron Sharpe and Garner Road during the adidas Summer Championships in Birmingham, Ala."

The four-star recruit is ranked as a Top 100 player overall in the 2020 class per 247 Sports and the No. 5 player in the state of Minnesota. He currently has 22 offers out including several from schools in the Midwest.

The Tar Heels are also targeting five-star point guard Caleb Love, a Midwest product, hoping to dig into that pipeline and land some talent for their class. UNC will have to beat out some tough schools for both Love and Walton but there is a possibility it could happen.

Walton has officially visited Purdue already and will be on Arizona’s campus in late September for an official. It’s to be determined if he will visit UNC or not.
