The latest on a five-star power forward that is on the UNC Basketball team’s radar for the 2020 recruiting class

One target left on North Carolina’s 2020 basketball recruiting board is Texas native and five-star power forward Greg Brown. The Austin product is one of the top players left uncommitted in the 2020 class and could be a big addition to the Tar Heels.

Brown will be on campus the weekend of September 27th for his official visit with the Tar Heels, attending “Late Night With Roy” and then being on campus for the football team’s game vs. No. 1 Clemson.

Adding The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Brown would be huge for UNC as they already have five-star center Day’Ron Sharpe verbally committed. Early on it appeared as if UNC would have a really good shot of pulling him out of the state of Texas.

But as the recruitment goes on, it appears as if UNC has backed off a bit.

Rivals’ Corey Evans caught up with Brown earlier this week to get the latest on his recruitment and where he stands with teams. During the interview, Evans asked Brown about UNC who is one of the teams he will visit and on his final list.

He offered up this answer:

"CE: North Carolina, they have been on there for a while with you?GB: I haven’t really heard from them a lot lately, but they are still on my list.CE: What are you looking forward to seeing once you go back on Sept. 27?GB: Just to watch the practice and the type of intensity in the gym. How the coaches talk, their players and their relationships."

So according to Brown, the Tar Heels appear to have backed off of him a bit in this recruitment which signals that they may not like where they stand in his recruitment. While Brown still has his official visit let, this isn’t great news.

The other interesting part about the interview was when Brown was asked about fellow five-star recruit Cade Cunningham and whether or not the two would like to play college basketball together. Brown told Evans that they have always talked about playing college ball together but he doesn’t want to give anything out and has a school in mind where the two would play together.

The only two schools on both recruit’s lists are UNC and Kentucky.

Brown’s recruitment will be something to watch as it continues but you can’t feel great about the Tar Heels chances right now. Of course, that all could change as time goes on.
