5-star prospect, UNC target will announce top seven teams on Tuesday

Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels are hoping to get good news on Tuesday when 5-star class of 2020 prospect Dawson Garcia announces the seven finalists in his recruitment. A tweet from Garcia’s personal Twitter account a couple of weeks ago stated that he’d be cutting his list soon, and Tipton Edits tweeted on Saturday that his top seven teams would be announced on Tuesday.

A 6-foot-11-inch, 220-pound center out of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Garcia has scholarship offers from better than 20 schools including Arizona, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Marquette, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Purdue, Texas, Texas Tech, Wisconsin and Xavier.

To this point, nobody seems to have much of an idea where Garcia is headed, evidenced by the comments of Rivals’ recruiting analyst Eric Bossi last month when he said nobody, including the coaches recruiting him, have “any clue” where he’s going to go.

"“As for Garcia, the skilled forward from Minnesota has given absolutely zero hints into what he might be thinking,” Bossi said. “Could he stay local at Minnesota? Could early work done by a Texas or Purdue work out in their favor? Does he go the blue blood route with a Kansas or a North Carolina. Or, does he do something else. Nobody seems to have any clue, least of all the coaches chasing him.”"

Garcia is a tall, long, versatile big man that’s rounding into a really good basketball player. He’s a good shot blocker and rebounder. And he’s a really good passer, particularly for his size and position. He’s also equipped with a good jump shot that allows him to extend defenses out to the three-point line. Garcia has the kind of potential that could make him a first round draft pick in a couple of years.

He’s the No. 30 prospect in the class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the fourth-ranked center in the class, and No. 2 in the state of Minnesota.
