The top remaining target on the UNC Football program’s recruiting board made a big update on Friday night and it’s good news for the Tar Heels

Mack Brown and his staff at North Carolina have done a great job so far with the 2020 football recruiting class as we get set for the 2019 season. After putting together a Top 30 class for 2019, Brown currently has a Top 20 class which has hovered around the Top 10 for a bit as well.

The Tar Heels have landed some of the top in-state talent in this class, something that hurt Larry Fedora during his tenure here at UNC. But while UNC does have a really good class so far, there’s a chance it could get even better.

The top target left on the Tar Heels’ recruiting board is five-star defensive end Desmond Evans, a Sanford native that currently plays at Lee County High School. Evans is ranked as The No. 21 player overall in the 2020 class and is the No. 2 player at his position and No. 1 in the state per 247 Sports’ rankings.

While Evans recruitment has been quiet of late, he made a big announcement on Friday night regarding his recruitment and there is some good news for UNC. Evans released his top 5 teams which includes the Tar Heels as well as one other Atlantic Coast Conference team and three SEC teams:

The Tar Heels have been recruiting Evans for three years now and was one of his first six offers when Larry Fedora and his staff officially offered him in 2017. The interest didn’t go away when Brown was hired and some think the Tar Heels are the team to beat in the recruitment.

Evans has been on campus multiple times over the years, taking unofficial visits and attending camps in Chapel Hill.

As for his decision? Well, it could come at anytime as Evans hasn’t really laid out a timeline on when he would announce.
